Transverse Relaxing Keratotomy for the Correction of Astigmatism after Cataract Operation
|

Abstract

|
|
The transverse relaxing keratotomies were performed in 17 eyes for correction of astigmatism with 2 dipoters or more on 3 to 27 months after cataract surgery. After a follow-up period of 6 months or more, the surgically induced astigmatic changes
were
evaluated by algebraic and vector analysis. The transverse relaxing keratotomy was based on the nomogram developed by Thonton.
The mean preoperative keratometric astigmatism was 3.26 diopters and the mean postoperative keratometric astigmatism was 1.87 diopters(P<0.01). The mean surgically inducd astigmatism was 2.41 diopters(P<0.01). Fourteen of the 17 eyes(82%) had an
uncorrected visual acuity after surgery better than an uncorrected visual acuity before surgery. Serious complications were not present.
The transverse relaxing keratotomy to correct or reduce astigmatism after cataract surgery was simple, efficient, and relatively sage.
